Nilo Tabrizy

Nilo Tabrizy covers the Walt Whitman houses in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.

Nilo (pronounced knee-loo) was born in Tehran and lived in Dubai before moving to Vancouver, Canada. While Nilo affectionately calls herself a Vancouverite, she holds dual citizenship in Iran and Canada.

Nilo graduated in 2011 from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where she studied Political Science and French. Though Nilo does not have a traditional journalism background, she developed a passion for reporting at her college paper “The Ubyssey.” At UBC, she also participated in Model United Nations and traveled internationally for competitions.

Nilo enjoys telling character-driven stories that have an impact. She wanted to be at the center of the media universe – New York City – which is why she came to Columbia Journalism. She is a broadcast concentrator and is particularly interested in international reporting, immigration politics and political movements.

When she’s not reporting, Nilo loves learning new languages and watching hockey in French.
