Marin Austin
Marin Austin covers the Dyckman Houses in Inwood, Manhattan.
Born in New Jersey suburbia, Marin grew up in cities across North America before settling with her family in sunny San Diego.
At 15, Marin was a member of the US Short Track Speed Skating Olympic training team. From 2004-2005, she was ranked as one of the top five fastest women in the States, winning two American cups. A few years later, she landed a coveted internship at the Los Angeles bureau of the NBC Nightly News, where she assisted in interviewing more than 80 athletes for the 2010 Winter Olympics. She also served as an investigative intern at Dateline NBC, eventually earning associate producer credit for a story about young celebrity pregnancies.
Most recently, Marin worked as a researcher at the ABC News affiliate in San Diego. She spent ten weeks investigating a home loan modification business. After the story aired, the FBI raided the company.
She graduated in 2011 from the USC Annenberg School of Journalism with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism. For four years, she reported live for USC’s Annenberg TV News (ATVN) daily broadcast. While working as a full-time student, Marin also reported breaking Los Angeles news stories for San Diego’s cable North County News show.
Marin is a Broadcast concentrator at Columbia Journalism School, where she serves as the chapter Vice President of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She loves exploring New York, although she misses her Bernese Mountain Dog, Maxie. You can follow Marin on Twitter @marinaustin.
