Leonard Schoenberger

Leonard Schoenberger, or Leo, as his friends call him, was born and raised in Munich, Germany. He is concentrating his M.S. in broadcast at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.  He aspires to be a sports leo_biojournalist.

In 2003, Schoenberger graduated from high school and lived in Paris for two months to become more proficient in French. When he returned to Munich, he worked briefly as an editorial intern at a local television station. He was later drafted to complete public service, which is required of all German males. Schoenberger chose to assist surgeons at a local hospital. For eight months, his work was similar to that of a nurse, monitoring patients and transporting them for procedures.

Schoenberger began a five-year program at the University of Munich in 2004, where he majored in American cultural history. He spent his fourth year studying in Paris, where he also interned at CNN as an assistant producer.  He graduated from the University of Munich in July 2009 with a magister degree (equivalent to a master’s degree).

Schoenberger is fluent in German, English and French. He is a sports and outdoor enthusiast and enjoys fly-fishing, skiing, golf and soccer. He is a fan of Germany’s most successful soccer team, Bayern Munich. During his time in the U.S., Schoenberger hopes to head west to ski some fresh powder in the Rocky Mountains. In the meantime, he will be reporting from Williamsburg and Greenpoint, Brooklyn, for NYCinFocus.org.
