Kayla Ruble
Kayla Ruble covers the Woodside Houses in Woodside, Queens.
She grew up in Midland, Michigan, where she decided at age four that she wanted to become the President of the United States.
While she was in third grade, her class began learning about Kosovo. Kayla spent her evenings at home fascinated by news reports about the Kosovo War. It was one of the first world events that Kayla saw and understood on television and her aspirations quickly changed. Captivated by international affairs, she decided to pursue journalism.
Kayla attended Miami University where she studied journalism and political science. After her sophomore year of college, she was presented with the rare opportunity to intern at the KosovaLive News Agency in Pristina, Kosovo. Kayla was excited to visit the country that first sparked her interest in journalism, and to give voices to those affected by poverty and war. While in Kosovo, she was struck by the conditions in the poorest parts of the country, which solidified her interest in reporting on issues pertaining to women’s access to education and healthcare in developing countries.
After graduating from Miami University, Kayla moved to Santiago, Chile, where she interned at The Santiago Times. She then worked as a Main News Reporter for Business News Americas in Santiago.
Kayla was thrilled to be accepted into the master’s program at Columbia Journalism School. She hopes to work as a foreign correspondent and cover the impacts of war and conflict on women.
