Eddie Small
Edward J. Small covers the Forest Houses in Morrisania, Bronx.
Eddie discovered his passion for journalism at the age of 11, after he came across a humor column by Dave Barry in the Danbury News Times, his local paper.
He began to develop his talent for news writing during his freshman year at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., when he joined the school paper, The Dickinsonian, as a reporter. Over four years, Eddie served as the associate features editor, news editor, managing editor, and, ultimately, editor-in-chief. He further immersed himself in the news industry in 2008, when he completed a summer-long internship at the prominent fake newspaper, The Onion.
After graduating from Dickinson in 2010 with Phi Beta Kappa honors and a bachelor’s degree in history, Eddie spent a year tutoring at MATCH Charter Public Middle School in Boston, as part of the highly competitive MATCH Corps urban education program. A profound experience, it inspired Eddie to report on education issues as a journalist.
In pursuit of this goal, Eddie enrolled in Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where he is currently working toward his master’s degree.
Eddie grew up in Newtown, Conn., home of his preferred food—pizza made by his father, Stephen L. Small.
