Danielle Bengsch

Danielle Bengsch was born in Munich, Germany and raised in Frankfurt. After high school, she dreamed of becoming a doctor and attended medical school for one year at Leipzig University. While studying medicine, she discovered another way she could change people’s lives: through writing. So she switched majors and decided to pursue a career in journalism.bengsch-edit

Bengsch received her Bachelor of Arts in communications and media science from Leipzig University in 2009. During college, Bengsch was exposed to the different aspects of media in Germany. She interned with a movie production company and also did public relations work for the Leipzig Synagogue. During her last year in college, Bengsch was the head news editor for Leipzig University’s radio station. At the station, Bengsch led the morning newscast once a week, developed story ideas and supervised other staff members.

Through these leadership roles her passion for journalism grew, but Bengsch yearned for more hands-on experience in journalism. She entered Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism in order to gain a strong foundation in journalism techniques and technology.

In the future, Bengsch hopes to work in the United States as a foreign correspondent for a German broadcast company. Bengsch enjoys reading, cooking, running, and spending time with friends.
