Annie Claire Bergeron-Oliver
Annie Claire Bergeron-Oliver covers the Frederick Douglass Houses on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.
She is pursuing a Masters degree at Columbia Journalism and is in the broadcast concentration. Although she is interested in doing nightly news, Annie is pursuing a radio master’s project that focuses on professional sport.
Born in Ottawa, Canada, Annie has always loved winter sports. Shortly after taking her first steps at nine months old, Annie was given her first pair of figure skates. She later became a noted Canadian figure skater winning titles and competing at the Ontario University Athletics Championships, Skate Canada National Championships, US Collegiate Figure Skating Nationals and the Eastern Canadian Championships.
Annie’s parents, both journalists, urged her to find a career that would be more flexible and predictable. In 2011, Annie graduated with honors from University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Physical Education, Health and Kinesiology and a minor in Political Science.
While at U of T, Annie interned at MTV Canada, coached, sat on student government and skated 30 hours a week. She has also worked in the communications department at the Office of the Auditor General and the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Federal Secretariat. Annie is fluent in French and English, is an avid runner, former equestrian rider, hockey fanatic and politics junkie.
