Angelica Spanos
Angelica Spanos is no stranger to a fast-paced lifestyle. Growing up in Falls Church, Va., she spent her childhood juggling soccer practices, games, dance classes, and rigorous academics, but now she’s tackling the fast-paced world of journalism.
Spanos always found it easy to talk to people. As early as middle school she entered oratorical contests—timed competitions meant to test public speaking and knowledge of major issues. Spanos won several awards and enjoyed the process of writing and presenting to an audience. Through these contests she discovered her love for journalism.
Spanos graduated from George Washington University in May of 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and mass communication. As a student she worked as a writer, producer, anchor, and director for the university’s television station, GWTV.
In the summer of 2007, Spanos interned at WTOP radio in Washington, D.C., where she developed and wrote stories for air and online. In the spring of 2008, she interned at the local Fox affiliate where she worked closely with journalists and spent a lot of time in the field with reporters. In her senior year of college, she worked behind the scenes as an intern for CNN’s The Situation Room.
Spanos is currently an Master’s of Science candidate at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. She hopes to start as a reporter for a local or cable news station. Sports broadcasting could be a future career for her as well.
Spanos enjoys spending free time with her family, at the beach, reading, doing needlework and playing sports.
