Alessandra Potenza

Alessandra Potenza covers the Ravenswood Houses in Astoria, Queens.

Born and raised in Rome, Italy, Alessandra nurtured her interest in storytelling from a young age as an avid painter and theater performer. At the age of 12, she wrote her first novel, Dal Punto di Vista di Giulia (“From Giulia’s Point of View”), and she has been writing ever since. Published by De Ferrari in August of 2010, the book follows a young girl as she moves from the big city to the Italian countryside.

Earlier this year, Alessandra completed her second novel, Il Vecchio e Holland (“The Old Man and Holland”), a supernatural tale about a girl who befriends her reincarnated father. In addition to her love of the arts, Alessandra is also interested in immigration reform and has spent time working as a language tutor in immigrant communities in her native Rome.

Alessandra is currently pursuing her Master’s degree at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Before moving to New York, she completed internships with National Geographic, Vatican Radio, and the Italian newspaper Il Manifesto. Alessandra holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications (Writing for the Media) with a Minor in Creative English Writing from the American University of Rome.
