Maintaining the Roots Through Education

Studies show that children of immigrants tend to lose their parents language and culture. That’s why for years, expatriates have tried to bring their educational customs to the American school system. For instance, New York City has a French, a Chinese and a German school.
A group of Spanish expats has just started a new enrichment program — the first Spanish program of its kind in the U.S. — where children attend Saturday classes to help them keep pace with their cousins back in Spain. Mar Cabra visited the center in Brooklyn.
