The Dyckman Houses are known for their onsite basketball courts. Since the 1980’s, the We Are Dyckman basketball team has served as a breeding ground for NBA players. Among them is 19-time NBA all star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The surrounding neighborhood is a predominantly Dominican neighborhood lined with Caribbean shops, restaurants and businesses. It is considered one of the last rural neighborhoods in Manhattan and is home to the 200-acre Inwood Hill Park.
