Interesting Fact: The 27.46 acres building complex (the largest NYCHA development in Manhattan) on the legendary Lower East Side was named after Bernard M. Baruch (1870-1965). Baruch was a financier, an advisor to seven presidents and a philanthropist. He accompanied President Woodrow Wilson to the Paris Peace Conference (1919) and coined the term “Cold War,” which was immediately adopted by newspapers around the world. The housing complex – which includes the Baruch Addition designated for senior residents – was completed June, 30, 1959.
